Reading the Bible??? In the Bible is where I found myself…after I first found the Lord. How grateful I am that He has given us such a wonderful and accurate picturebook of Himself. From one story to another, from one page to the next, He writes of His faithfulness, love, grace, and power for us as His children. We could never tire of reading of such a God who has given us His all and is beyond our understanding, but is still everything we need. When I found Him, I learned more of myself and my own need. Oh, yes, I believe that reading the Bible is a grand experience, and to share as a community in reading God’s Word together is even more awesome!!

Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we headed? Am I supposed to be my own Sherlock Holmes, left alone to sort out the clues? Should I keep ignoring the big, itchy questions? Surely not. The Bible gives us access to wisdom of the ages. Reading it is like drawing near to a great mountain or feeling the rumble of thunder in your bones. Its enduring message resonates—it matches up with our deeper longings and wonder. Perhaps that is why even so many skeptics have found it not only inspiring, but indeed, Inspired.
Tim Filston, Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church
Living the Christian life without reading the Bible would be like trying to turn on a light bulb without using any electricity. God gave His Word to illuminate our minds (John 17:17), to transform our wills (Romans 12:1-2), and to guide our daily choices (Psalm 119:11). For a Christian, listening to God’s voice should have priority over all the other ‘voices’ from our culture that compete for our attention and allegiance.
Gary Phillips, Signal Mountain Bible Church
Because God creates and sustains his people by his Word. Consider the importance of words in your own relationships. Where there is no communication, there is no relationship, so it should come as no surprise that God’s speaking to us is at the heart of our relationship with him. If we are to know God, we must hear him speak to us.
Paul told Timothy, “Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.” (1 Timothy 4:13) In other words, read it, preach it, and teach it. Without God’s Word, our spiritual growth would be severely hindered. We need to read God’s word!
Tim Schoap, Signal Mountain Bible Church
I think reading the Bible is a very important part of a person's faith development. By reading the Bible, I believe we find guidance, strength, and confidence for our daily activities and events. As one wrote, "The modern world, with its conflicting currents and diverse values, calls us to reexamine the primary tool for discerning God's presence and purposes: Scripture."
Mark Gooden, Signal Crest United Methodist Church

Reading the Bible is important because it is one of the ways we can connect with God, and it is our key to the map of life. We can look into the scriptures and find information on life situations from salvation to love, from peace to war, from money to forgiveness, and from sex to how to be a parent. Ephesians 6:17 tells us that the word of God is the sword that we should take with us for protection everywhere we go. Reading our Bible allows us to take the word of God in our hearts wherever we may go!
Lewis Kizer, Signal Crest United Methodist Church

Reading the Bible is of the greatest importance because we need a voice above our human level; we need to hear the voice of God. We Christians believe God has spoken uniquely through the writings in the Bible. After years of thorough examination by the most careful scholars, the books included in our Bible were selected as the authentic Word of God and these writings have stood the test of time and been reaffirmed for their authenticity in every generation since the Bible was put together. The best thing we can do is to read those words for ourselves.

Bible reading is a crucial aspect of living the Christian life. We are encouraging everyone at Wayside to read the whole Bible in 90 days!
Marshall St. John, Wayside Presbyterian Church

Why is reading the Bible important? It contains God’s word about himself and man, past present and future. The Bible claims to be the inspired word of God and able to save those that humbly receive, believe and obey its message. (2 Tim. 3:16-17, James 1:21-25, 1 Peter 1:23-25). In it we discover who God is, who we are, the source of our greatest problems and God’s solution. The Bible contains the words of Jesus Christ which he said will be the standard by which we will all be judged. (John 12:48, Hebrews 4:12). No other book has impacted our world like the Bible. Please join in this adventure of reading it together as a whole community!
Greg & Jenny Nance, Signal Mountain Church of Christ

Reading the Bible should be one of the most important things that a Christian does. It is much like reading a road map as we seek the right direction in which to turn. It is the place where we find guidance in decision-making, where we find direction in living the our lives the way that God has for us to, and where we learn how to grow in our Christian walk. It is amazing how the stories of God’s work through thousands of years all tie together when we read the Bible in full. I encourage you to join your brothers and sisters in Christ from all around this community to read your Bible in 90 Days.
Sally Ensley, Signal Mountain Baptist Church
If you think about it, it is hard to believe anyone does not read the Bible. Would you fail to read the will of a family member who promised you an inheritance? Would you neglect to read a letter from the person with whom you are in love. Would you fail to read the book that explains where the universe comes from and where it is headed? Would you not read the book that tells how to overcome sin and death? If you found a way to have God speak to you, would you ignore it? So, why don't we read the Bible more?
David C. George, Signal Mountain Baptist Church
It is very important to read God’s Word because it contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. The Bible is a source of guidance, a lamp for our feet and a light to our paths (Psalm 119:105)
Roger Copas, Community Baptist Church

“In the beginning was the Word…” and still is. The Bible has everything necessary for salvation and is not subject to “that was then, this is now.” It is constant and cannot be changed, with no respect intended to the modernists who would think otherwise. God chose to provide the means of instruction giving examples of continuous warnings, tolerating our disobedience, and providing forgiveness to the repentant. Yes, the Bible’s examples seem old, but they apply just as well today.
Let’s give Him back a few minutes daily by reading his Word.
